Playing with Fire:
Stained Glass Windows and William Morris

A presentation by Shirley Ann Brown, Professor of Art History

at York University. She will examine the medieval and later

contexts of the making of stained glass that William Morris

learned from and incorporated into his own windows. That is, she

will examine how the historical precedents were studied and used

by him, both in technical aspects, and in the design and decoration

of the windows.

This is a wonderful opportunity for William

Morris Society members to hear a medievalist who is not only a

specialist on the Bayeux Tapestry that Morris so much admired,

but also the founding Director of the Registry of Stained Glass in

Canada: http://www.yorku.ca/rsgc
