Northern England and Scotland

Please join us for a unique tour, featuring gardens and interiors
 of Arts and Crafts houses in the northern half of Great Britain.

The size of the group will be limited to 20 people.

ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS

GLASGOW: Museums and key Charles Rennie Mackintosh sites, such as Hill House, the Glasgow School of Art and the Willow Tea Room. (The Victorian House Hotel, 3 nights)

LAKE DISTRICT: John Ruskin’s home Brantwood, the Baillie Scott house Blackwell, the Charles F.A.Voysey house Broad Leys and local arts and crafts churches with Burne-Jones windows. (Langley Chase or Low Wood Hotel, 2 nights) 

MANCHESTER: Art galleries, pottery museum, and Town Hall with Ford Madox Brown murals (Britannia Hotel, 2 nights)

YORKSHIRE: Arts and crafts workers’ village, Castle Howard with Morris and Company furnishings and churches with stained glass designed by Morris. (Castleford Tulip, 1 night)

NEWCASTLE: Cragside (Norman Shaw, architect), Lindisfarne Castle (refurbished by Edwin Lutyens and gardens by Getrude Jekyll) and St Andrew’s Church (Caledonian Hotel, 2 nights)

GLASGOW:
A good night’s sleep before returning home, or continuing on to Orkney. (The Victorian House Hotel,1 night)



ORKNEY EXTENSION

After the main tour ends on the morning of June 19, a few intrepid adventurers head north from Glasgow to ORKNEY, for the arts and crafts house Melsetter (William Richard Lethaby). Other attractions are a World Heritage site with bronze age settlements, St. Magnus Cathedral, bird sanctuary, Scapa Flow naval museum, the world’s northernmost whiskey distillery and the Queen Mother’s gardens at the Castle of Mey. (5 nights, returning to Glasgow on Sunday June 24.)

PRICING

Land tour only, June 8 – 19.
Glasgow-Lake District-Manchester-Yorkshire-Newcastle-Glasgow

Per person, double occupancy: $2,425 CDN
Single supplement: $385 CDN

These prices are for each person, for land arrangements only. Prices include:

- 11 nights accommodation with breakfast, in comfortable 3-star hotels
- Most house entrance fees
- Travel by air-conditioned coach
- Tolls for roads, bridges, ferries

Note on International Fares

A number of people will be flying directly from Toronto to Scotland on Zoom Airlines for $698 CDN return. As these flights do not fly every day, we will have an additional day in Scotland at the beginning of the trip.
