A Talk by David Latham Sunday, March 23, 2003, at 2:00 pm in the Music Room of the
Grange, David Latham will discuss the Pre-Raphaelites’ characteristic interest in the cellars and attics of Camelot as the sites for lustful angels transgressing the borders of decorum. David is editor of the Journal of Pre-Raphaelite Studies and teaches English at York. His latest book is "Haunted Texts: Studies in Pre-Raphaelitism in Honour of William E. Fredeman" and is published by the University of Toronto Press (2003). This year, David is the National Endowment for the Humanities Distinguished Visiting Chair at the State University of New York. He also serves on the board of the WMSC. Members are strongly invited to visit the AGO ahead of the lecture to take advantage of the ticket price. The European Galleries on the main floor have been reinstalled and look quite lovely. The earliest Canadian Gallery will also have been reinstalled to include early First Nations art. The design of this particular gallery will be unique. IMPORTANT: Numbers are limited to 50 (members only). You can purchase tickets beginning December 12, 2002. Call the Art Gallery of Ontario at 416-979-6608 and ask for ticket reservation. They will require your Visa, etc. The cost per ticket is $12. Your tickets will be mailed to you, or held in your name; you will be able to pick them up on the day of the lecture. Book early as this event sells out. Refreshments will be served (including Birthday Cake), and a toast will be given in honour of William Morris, whose birthday falls on March 24th.
