Saturday, May 24 to Sunday, June 1 The William Morris Society of Canada offers to its members a nine-day tour, led by Bill Hall, that will emphasize nineteenth-century American architecture (residential, institutional and landscape), painting and arts and crafts, with attention given to the works of Henry Hobson Richardson and Frederick Law Olmsted. Two major collections of restored buildings and Americana will be viewed: Old Deerfield in Massachusetts and Shelburne Museum in Vermont. We shall tour five art galleries, some of which highlight the works of the Hudson River School and Frederic Remington or have outstanding collections of French Impressionist and Italian Renaissance art. A Shaker village in New Hampshire, Mark Twain’s fabulous home in Hartford, and Richardson’s signature Trinity Church with stained glass by Morris, Burne Jones and John LaFarge in Boston are other notable highlights. Our group of 30 will travel in a deluxe air-conditioned motor coach,
and, from our past experience in Britain, Iceland, the U.S. Midwest, New
York City and Washington D.C., it is most likely that you will learn a
lot and enjoy the company of fellow Morrisians. Because of the amount of
walking at various sites participants must be capable of keeping up with
a normal walking pace and handling their own luggage. No travel agent is
promoting or protecting this tour; so you must decide about whether to
purchase your own medical insurance, protection, etc.
