SANDY KRZYZANOWSKI, DYER OF TEXTILES - approx. 8 p.m.
Since 1969 Sandy Krzyzanowski has been enthusiastic about working with natural dyes. Her research, experiments and applications with onion and grape skin, sumac leaves and berries and rusty nails in vinegar have led to her signature look on fabric. Colours, patterns and textures of an earthy natural appearance and feel have made their way into clothing, silk scarves, hats, theatre costumes and sets as well as other fabric and fibre of many kinds. These have been seen and sold in various locations such as stores, galleries and shows including fashion shows at Harbourfront, the Textile Museum of Canada, the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatchewan and others.

Sandy shares her passion and commitment to natural dyes by teaching and demonstrating in a great variety of ways: schools, colleges, camps, galleries, in the media - TV, radio and in print - and also in her home. She also is often seen wearing natural dyed outfits. Using fabric samples she will discuss how the Arts and Crafts movement has wound its way through her life: at the School of Architecture during Thomas Howarth's tenure and through living in three Arts and Crafts communities - as well as growing up in the Swansea/Old Mill neighbourhood near the home of James Harvey.

FREE to members and non-members. Refreshments will be served.

Directions: Emmanuel College is right at the Spadina Line Museum Stop. Exit at the east side of University Ave (Queen's Park, to give it the correct name) and walk south.
